Bon Hotels is set to open the Leopard Sands River Lodge this year that will be fully Halaal certified. The property will consist of 18 luxury units and private plunge pools.
The lodge is minutes away from the Kruger gate.
“We chose this particular region because of our love of nature, hospitality and sustainable tourism, and cannot wait to welcome guests to experience the breath-taking scenes offered by the incredible Leopard Sands River Lodge by BON Hotels,” says co-owner, Safraaz Suliman.
The property was acquired by BON Hotels, a South-African based hotel company that manages and owns hotels, lodges and resorts throughout Southern Africa, as well as West and East Africa. The group’s CEO, Guy Stehlik, is excited that this latest development, one of three lodges in the Kruger Park area acquired by BON Hotels, represents a significant expansion for the hospitality group. Together with the owners, the hotel group believes that this will have a sustainable and positive effect on the region’s growth and tourism offerings.
His enthusiasm is also reflective of the opening of this Lodge as an opportunity to bring a greater variety of accommodation options to the area. “We are delighted to announce the opening of this new lodge. What makes it even more special is that it will be Halaal-certified and able to cater to Muslim travellers from around the globe.”
Please note this applies to countries that do not require a formal visa application process. South African Citizens need to still apply for a visa through the usual channels.
As of October 1 2019, travellers from 60 visa waiver countries will need an NZeTA (New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority). Travellers who attempt to travel without an NZeTA from this time will be denied boarding.
This change will only apply to passport holders from countries that currently do not require a visa to travel to New Zealand.
Affected countries include Canada, Croatia, France, Germany, The Netherlands, Portugal, Greece, Ireland, the UK and Italy.
The NZeTA request costs NZD $12 (R112) when completed online and NZD $9 (R84) when completed on Immigration New Zealand’s app. The International Visitor Conservation and Tourism Levy is NZD $35 (R326) and is paid at the same time as the NZeTA.

Emirates has announced a surcharge on all Winter flights (South African Summer) flights. This means all Economy flights will cost a little bit more.
A surcharge of US$40 (R557) will be added to tickets for flights travelling into Dubai between December 13 and 21, and again between January 2 and 6. Flights out of Dubai between January 2 and 12 will also have the charge added.
This means the peak flights tickets will be even more expensive. If you have already booked your December flights well done, you are probably saving close to R1000 per ticket.
Visitors to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) which includes Dubai and Abu Dhabi will be receiving a free SIM card on arrival.
This SIM card will be loaded with 3 internal minutes of airtime and 20GB of data. This data is really useful for messaging and Uber.
Even though there are numerous free WiFi hotspots this SIM is useful for areas where the WiFi signal drops.
I personally found this an issue when trying to call an Uber from the mall and as I waited outside the signal was too weak.
The SIM can be recharged with a credit card or at any point of sale, just like all other sims bought across the UAE.
The card will be given to the visitor at immigration and will automatically be activated and registered in the name of the traveller. No documentation is required to obtain the sim.
The sim cards will be valid for a month and will automatically be renewed if the tourist extends their visa.
Visitors can expect to receive these SIM cards as of 16 June 2019
Nico Bezuidenhout returns to Mango as permanent CEO from 1 October 2019. Nico was the CEO of Mango for 13 years before moving in 2016 to FastJet.
This appointment by Zukisa Ramasia acting CEO of SAA (of which Mango is a subsidiary) is part of the group’s efforts to recover from years of losses.
The 42-year-old South African previously held the post for nearly a decade until 2016, when he joined Fastjet following tensions between the then-CEO and No.2 shareholder, easyJet founder Stelios Haji-Ioannou.
Fastjet, which operates in South Africa, Mozambique and Zimbabwe, Nico assisted in saving the company from going under after striking a deal to raise funds late last year.
We look forward to this appointment and wish Nico and the team all the best in saving our countries national
What does this mean for us as consumers? Both companies are good in their domains, with Travelstart very strong in providing low-cost airline tickets and Club Travel stronger in the corporate market. This acquisition by the founder of Travelstart Stephan Ekbergh makes perfect sense in growing its market share in a very competitive market.
“The deal is still subject to approval by the Competition Commission and no operational strategies have been put in place, the aim is for Travelstart to purchase 100% of the shares for the Club Travel Group. Thebe Tourism will then reinvest in Club Travel Corporate as the majority shareholder with Travelstart holding 46% of this division’s shares” [source tnw]
All the best to Travelstart and Club Travel. Let us see how this will affect us at Book Cheap Tickets.
In an attempt to improve the way we check-in on FlySafair flights, FlySafair has introduced Check-In Rangers. These members of the FlySafair crew will assist you with check-in, print your boarding pass and tag your bags.
Check-In Rangers can be identified with a bright pink hat and “cowboy or cowgirl” style clothing. After the 14th June, this will be swapped to pink sashes.
FlySafair’s Head of Sales and Distribution; Kirby Gordon said, “Our innovative IT team has been working tirelessly to get this process off the ground, and we’re proud that we’re finally able to implement it at our airports, to the benefit of our customers. We needed a way for passengers to find the rangers as quickly and as easily as possible at the airport, hence the sashes and the holsters”.
Let us see how this goes, should you have any feedback regarding your experience with these rangers please feel free to share your experiences below.
